Problems with two Games (Prey and Tropico 5) under Wine

Post by LinuXGuy »

Hi dear wine community,

since a few day i have a linux system with wine 4.0. And notice the following problems with two games:

Tropico 5: I don't have any sound. I saw that this is known problem (accorrding to the wine app database) and i want to ask whether there is a way to fix that problem.

Prey (2017 Reboot from Bethesda): The game starts without problems but as soon as the game is ready with loading and want to exit the loading screen it crashes. The error is the following: "The memory could not be read". I have this problem when i want to load my old save games and when i want to start a new campagain. Other games on Wine don't show this behavior and on my second system (Win 10 Enterprise) i never had an error like this.

I hope someone in the community here have a solution. If you need a log tell me how and i will do it.

Thanks in advance for answer.

Post by Bob Wya »

@LinuXGuy

Hi ya!

I'd make sure you're using Wine Staging 4.0 (which generally has better compatibility for more modern games).

Then, please, post Wine terminal output for both of the games that aren't working.
Please include the terminal commands you are using as well.

See: WineHQ FAQ: 10.1.1 How can I get a debugging log (a.k.a. terminal output)?

Please also post the output from:

Code: Select all

glxinfo | egrep '^OpenGL'
Please ensure you use the forum Code tags, if you are posting terminal commands + logs, in a forum post:

Code: Select all

...
I'm presuming you are running Ubuntu (possibly the "centre of the universe")??
Since you have mentioned what OS you are using...

Thanks
Bob

Hi,

my problem with Prey went away. I install the wine 4.0 staging and the newest nvidia driver (415.23) and the game doesn't crash anymore.
However i have micro stutters. So my question is the following: Has wine 4.0 staging mayby parameters to increase the performance? The change of graphic settings in the game itself doesn't affect the micro stuttering.

Here are the outputs for Tropico 5 (i hope i take the right one and that they give a hint why i don't have any sound):

glxinfo:

Code: Select all

$ glxinfo | egrep '^OpenGL'
