rosetta stone v3 cannot find iso file

Post by bananapeal »

Hello,

first time wine user for this rosetta software. i have mounted cdrom correctly in ubuntu. i have used loop command to mount as well as the command shown in the FAQ on this forum with the ro,unhide option and both produce same effect.

when i enter wine cmd.exe i can type D: and see the contents of the iso file.

when i enter winecfg, it already has correct folder and path. i can even use the browse option to see the subfolders of the cdrom (obv i choose mount pt folder).

when i start rosetta v3 it tells me there is no cd.

why? what can I try next?

i am running as user myself not root.

thanks

@bananapeal

Have you followed any of the suggestions on the WineHQ AppDB: Rosetta Stone version (sub)pages?
Presuming this is the Windows application you are talking about...

In future please state what Wine version you are using and what OS you are running...
Otherwise it's very hard to offer any further advice... :cry:

Thanks

latest ubuntu 18.10. wine from repository 3.0.3-2. Rosetta 3.4.7 'gold' 0 comments. what sub-pages?

i have read other posts here about people not mounting correctly or not pointing wine to the right folder. my wine shows the cdrom. cmd.exe in wine shows the cdrom. i can navigate to its subfolders. the browse function on winecfg can show the cdrom and its associated sub folders, the rosetta application says there is no language disk. there is even a folder in the wine folder for rosetta that is labeled d:: and when i cd to it and ls i see the cdrom contents.

here are terminal messages when it runs.

@bananapeal
  • The current (new) stable Wine release is 4.0.
    See: WineHQ Download: Ubuntu
  • You need to post the exact terminal commands you are using to start the game, with Wine.
    Again this is may not be correct, and often the source of end-user errors.
  • sub-pages = sub-webpages
    You didn't specify the exact version of the game...

I've updated to wine 4.0 and verified i'm using it from winecfg. I've mounted iso using the command here in forum with

Code: Select all

sudo mount -t iso9660 -o ro,unhide French\ -\ Level\ 2.iso /media/cdrom
it is the rosetta 3.4.7.

command i start with (from its program files x86 folder):

Code: Select all

wine rosettaversion3.exe
there is no longer a symlink for d:: ... however, cmd.exe can still see the cdrom as can winecfg using the browse feature even.

we know wine is using correct cdrom place because in cmd.exe i can type D: and it takes me to the cdrom and i can use dir to show the folders on it.

here are error message:

Code: Select all

wine RosettaStoneVersion3.exe

finally the only posts on 'sub-pages' are for mic problems with an earlier version. other related posts in the forums here for this version had incorrect mounting or winecfg. i think the mounting and winecfg is correct in my case.

i think my next step is to simply use a windows machine to load the cdroms into the program and copy paste the folders into the wine and just use it that way.

@bananapeal

There's nothing terribly useful in the Wine log.

I can try to troubleshoot a bit further, but I'd need an strace log, from starting Rosetta Stone:

Code: Select all

strace wine rosettaversion3.exe
Probably best to post that as a Github Gist...
At least then I can download it; to poke about in the file more easily.

Thanks
