Debian9 League of Legends Crash when game started

Post by Bloris »

Hello,

im still a newbie in Linux Game World, so i could have done a lot of errors...just hope someone will be able to help me.

I installed League of Legends following this page viewtopic.php?f=8&t=29849 and it seems to work. Client upgraded successfully and i was able to log in with my credential.

The problem showed up when i was trying to start the game. When the loading page has to showed up, wine shows me this message: "A critical error has occurred and the process must be terminated. Would you liek to create a crash dump to aid the developers in troubleshooting this issue? This may take up to 5 minutes. NOYE: The process may appear unresponsive during this time. [YES] [NO]". If i press NO, the client reopen and aske me to reconenct to the game.

I did something bad? There is something i can do to fix this?

Sorry for my bad english,
Loris

Debian 9
The default Wine version in Debian is very old. Which version do you use?
According to the Wine AppDb you should use wine-staging

Let's start with a terminal output, including the Wine command you used.
https://wiki.winehq.org/Wine_User's_Gui ... mmand_line

Don't forget to use the forum-Code-tags if you copy-paste the output.

This is the command:

Code: Select all

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine WINEARCH=win32 wine start 'C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\LeagueClient.exe'
and this is the console log:

Code: Select all

WINEPREFIX=~/.wine WINEARCH=win32 wine start 'C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\LeagueClient.exe'

Start with fixing the following errors:

For err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. i installed winbind, but i don't understand why it needed this lib.

For err:wgl:init_opengl Failed to load libGL: libGL.so.1 , i've no idea what it could be. If i try to install that package, it gives me dependency problems for every package.

Code: Select all

I seguenti pacchetti hanno dipendenze non soddisfatte:
 libgl1 : Dipende: libglx0 (= 1.1.0-1~bpo9+1) ma non sta per essere installato
libglx-nvidia0 : Dipende: libglx0 ma non sta per essere installato oppure
libglx0-glvnd-nvidia ma non sta per essere installato
 libqtwebkit4 : Dipende: libqt4-opengl (>= 4:4.8.6+git64-g5dc8b2b+dfsg-2~) ma non sta per essere installato
E: Errore, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve ha generato delle interruzioni. Questo potrebbe essere causato da pacchetti bloccati.
Errors is written in italian, if you need english just tell me. Anyway, if i try to install some of that packages, it gives me others dependency problems.

I've a NVIDIA GTX950M in this laptop and i've installed right drivers. Don't know if it could be the problem.

dpkg -l | grep libgl

You are missing the 32-bit Nvidia packages.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install nvidia-driver-libs-i386
This Meta-package should install the necessary packages.

The 384.130 Nvidia drivers are obsolete.

@Bob Wya
Updating the nvidia drivers from 384.xxx (stable) to 390.xxx (stable-backports) on Debian stable isn't straightforward. You also have to update mesa and libglvnd. [1]

When i said "right drivers" i mean i follwoed the instruction here: https://wiki.debian.org/NvidiaGraphicsD ... Stretch.22.

Code: Select all

deb http://httpredir.debian.org/debian/ stretch main contrib non-free# /etc/apt/sources.list

# apt update
# apt install linux-headers-$(uname -r|sed 's/[^-]*-[^-]*-//') nvidia-driver
{    # apt-get install -t stretch-backports linux-headers-$(uname -r|sed 's/[^-]*-[^-]*-//')    }
# apt-get install -t stretch-backports nvidia-driver
that's because i was pretty sure to have the right drivers, i mean the nvidia-driver would has done the trick, hasn't it?

Anyway when i will be at home i will try to follow your advice.

Thank you :D

I tried to reinstall nvdia drivers, but I do not think all had worked like wanted.

1) I've downloaded the driver from nvida website like you said (https://www.nvidia.com/Download/driverR ... 0135/en-us)
2) Tried to run .run file, but it said i had to delete manually debian's nvidia packages before to use that script. (NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-410.78.run)
3) i found all nvidia packages in the system with dpkg -l | grep nvidia
4) apt-get autoremove --purge glx-alternative-nvidia libgl1-nvidia-glvnd-glx libglx-nvidia0 libglx0-glvnd-nvidia libnvidia-glcore libnvidia-ml1 nvidia-alternative nvidia-installer-cleanup nvidia-kernel-common nvidia- kernel-dkms nvidia-kernel-support nvidia-legacy-check nvidia-modprobe nvidia-settings nvidia-support nvidia-vdpau-nvidia-xconfig driver xserver-xorg-video-nvidia
I didn't find a better solution...
5) Now i run nvidia script and during the installation it said some packages weren't full installed in the past. I obviously overwrote all of them.
6) Installation completed and rebooted

Something strange happened here....i was expecting to have 410 nvidia drivers, but this is my dpkg right now:
Nvidia drivers, but this is my dpkg right now:
dpkg -l | grep nvidia
ic glx-alternative-nvidia 0.8.3 ~ deb9u1 amd64 allows the selection of NVIDIA as GLX provider
ic nvidia-alternative 384.130-1 amd64 allows the selection of NVIDIA as GLX provider
ic nvidia-installer-cleanup 20151021 + 4 amd64 cleanup after driver installation with the nvidia-installer
ic nvidia-kernel-common 20151021 + 4 amd64 NVIDIA binary kernel module support files
ic nvidia-kernel-support 384.130-1 amd64 NVIDIA binary kernel module support files
ic nvidia-legacy-check 384.130-1 amd64 check for NVIDIA GPUs requiring a legacy driver
ic nvidia-support 20151021 + 4 amd64 NVIDIA binary graphics driver support files
iH xserver-xorg-video-nvidia 384.130-1 amd64 NVIDIA binary Xorg driver

where are all the libraries removed and why did i still have 384 drivers?
where are the respective packages of 410 I removed earlier?
And...why did nvidia debian packages not have installed correctly all drivers? Is it a bug with my graphics card? Should I report it or it is just my fault?

Anyway, I tried to play with wine only and with PlayOnLinux.

PlayOnLinux: game started perfectly at first time with my old ~/.POL profile. It seems to be perfect for now. I will continue to test it.
With winehq only: i recreate ~/.wine profile and reinstalled the game. Sometimes it crash when i use the command wine start 'C: \ Riot Games \ League of Legends \ LeagueClient.exe' , but if i launch it 2/3 times it works. it seems slower than the POL Version, but it's playable. Maybe i need only to check winecfg.

So, i'm able to play LoL right now, but i sitll have 384 nvidia drivers (when i ahve installed 410...). I know it's my fault, but i dont understand what i did wrong. Maybe i just have to reinstall debian to have a clean version? I would liek to snapshot my system (BTRFS) with a cleaner version possible

No I didn't. I merely linked to the Nvidia website, in order to show the currently supported Nvidia driver versions.
You should always install the Nvidia driver through your Linux package manager (either from a main repository or an add on one).
Unless... you really, really know what you are doing!
Hopefully though, you've learnt a valuable lesson here!

Glad you got the game working. 8)

Just thinking about this, from the performance perspective now...

It would be instructive to know what the POL script is for installing LOL.
Does it target a different version of Wine?

Perhaps it would also be worth taking a look at the Lutris LOL script.
Or testing setting up LOL with Lutris itself.
Compare that with the POL performance...

It's first time i'm going to work with wine and nvidia drivers and im stil la newbie in Linux system, so i've to learn a lot :) and surely i'm learning a lot thanks to this.
I know i've always to install packages form my package manager, but when i read The 384.130 Nvidia drivers are obsolete. i was thinking you were saying "download the last version for your graphic card from their web site"...so i just tried.
Anyway, everything is fine as long as I can do all the tests without losing any sensitive data 8)

No, they have wine-staging 3.21 both but probably they have different libraries installed.
I'm just trying to import some natives libraries and see if they will fix it!
Perhaps it would also be worth taking a look at the Lutris LOL script.
Or testing setting up LOL with Lutris itself.

Do you think it could be better? I didn't tried a lot on Lutris, because the first time i installed it, it was not able to download the executable for installation from the website...so i simply gave up
But if you say it's worth, i will try it too!

Anyway thank you all for you BIG patience. I think i'm so ridicolous

where are all the libraries removed and why did i still have 384 drivers?
What does the output of dpkg -l mean:

Code: Select all

First column: Desired
u for Unknown
i for Install
r for Remove
p for Purge
h for Hold

Second column: Status
n for Not Installed
i for Installed
c for Config-files
u for Unpacked
f for Failed-config
h for Half-installed

Third column: Err? (error?) — If in uppercase, bad errors.
  for (none)
h for Hold
r for Reinst-required
x for both-problems
If you install the nvidia modules from the .run file, the package-manager doesn't know about them. In other words you don't get updates with apt-get.
410.78-1 is in "NEW" [1] and is waiting to get approved by the FTP Team [2]. I recommend to switch to the Debian packages as soon as they are available.

I've an update.

Let's move on a system with bumblebee installed and same NVIDIA 950M. (https://wiki.debian.org/it/Bumblebee)
I've installed the same .exe file and after instalaltion, when i try to open the game the entire machine freeze. Mouse, TTY change, KDE don't respond. I'm forced to force poweroff of my computer.

I'm missing something with Wine + Optimus?

Code: Select all

I can't really comment about bubblebee (my laptop has an Nvidia GPU only), but you could try:
Ask Ubuntu: bumblebee doesn't work on Ubuntu 18.04
The GLVND issue makes sense, as this Nvidia driver change is pretty recent.

If that doesn't help can you post your:

Code: Select all

/var/log/Xorg.0.log
X-Server log file.

Also your winetricks version is very out-of-date.

Time to share some updates.

I've successfully fixed the crash problem and now the system works perfectly with Intel graphic, but i'm still unable to run applications using NVIDIA card.

That's what i've right now:

I think this could be the main problem: bumblebeed[1242]: [ 64.161849] [ERROR]Module 'nvidia' is not found. (Jurnalctl error)
It refers to this file i suppose /etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf

Anyone already faced off with this error?

@Bloris

Why are you posting the failed service unit output without the journal log?
What I am supposed to do with that??

Please also post the output from:

Code: Select all

journalctl --unit bumblebeed.service
Or perhaps limited to a time period, e.g.

Code: Select all

journalctl --unit --since='-2d' bumblebeed.service
I see nothing obvious in the Xorg.log, although perhaps I would expect both GPU's to be brought up?? :?

I would also suggest taking a look at the excellent Arch Wiki page on Bumblebee...

You'd probably be better off asking on Debian forums about non-Wine related issues like this.
Like I said, I don't have a dual GPU setup personally...

I posted last journactl's rows and Xorg.log, thought were enough.

Code: Select all

I will take a look tomorrow, thank you for the link :)

I think you are right. the problem isnt no more related to wine. I'm kinda offtopic i think.
Thank you for your help and support. I will stop to bother you here

Sorry, yup just quietly loosing the plot here!

Code: Select all

dic 06 23:50:12 msi bumblebeed[1249]: [ 124.411156] [ERROR]Module 'nvidia' is not found.
Check you've done the workaround's for this step on the Arch Wiki: [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU: No devices detected.
That might help!

Also you might want to take a look on the Bumbleebee issue tracker - there's bound to be someone else with a similar issue.
