Winehq-devel : Depends: wine-devel (= 3.20.0~trusty)

Post by AlexSmargle »

I'm trying to install the development branch of Wine in Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS because I need the new 3.21 but I'm having dependency issues I can't seem to resolve.
I added the architecture, the repository, the release key, and so on but when I try to run the actual winehq-devel installation command I get the following (and titular) error:

Code: Select all

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 winehq-devel : Depends: wine-devel (= 3.20.0~trusty)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
If I then try to install wine-devel, I get

Code: Select all

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
wine-devel : Depends: wine-devel-amd64 (= 3.20.0~trusty) but it is not going to be installed
              Depends: wine-devel-i386 (= 3.20.0~trusty)
E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages.
wine-devel-amd64 tells me it needs a bunch of things that are not installable (libgphoto2-port10, libcapi20-3, etc) and wine-devel-i386 says it depends on libgphot2-port10:i86 which has no installation candidate. It gives two options for packages that may replace it. I installed the libgphoto-port12 which was one of the recommendations and it says its already the newest version but attempting wine-devel again just tells me that I need still libgphoto2-port10:i386 which is not installable and gives me more things it recommends but is not going to install.
I'm rather lost here.

Are you sure your system is really 18.04? If it is, something is seriously messed up on your system; the message from apt is about a trusty (14.04) package, and apt shouldn't be trying to install that on 18.04.

I installed it as 18.04 and when I go into the about section it says I have 18.04.1 LTS

As I said, apt should not be trying to install a trusty package on that system. Post the contents of your /etc/apt/sources.list.

Code: Select all

deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ trusty main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ trusty main
Remove those lines, then run sudo apt-get update.

You know, I looked through it when I was copying it to here but somehow completely missed those then too. That's fixed it, thanks so much.

Please, in future, just use the forum Code tags for file dumps, logs, terminal commands, etc.
Same goes for any technical web forum.
