Pokémon Reborn with Wine - Performance

Post by BonanTagon »

I don't really know if this is the right place to ask but anyways...
I recently installed Wine 3.0 on my Lubuntu 16.04 Computer and at the same time downloaded
the fangame Pokémon Reborn from the official website, which was created using RPG Maker XP.
I managed to get it running with 'wine Game.exe' but I am disappointed about the speed in the
game. It is presumably 70 - 80% of the normal speed and I would like (as we all want) to accelerate the performance as much as possible. So do you know what I should possibly change in the
configurations or elsewhere to improve the gaming experience? Or do you think that 2 GB RAM are simply not good enough to play the game on any PC? Again, I can play it but I don't think that anyone would have the patience to play something in slow motion. Has anybody tried to play this?
My Hardware Specifications are:
Architecture: i686
CPU op-mode(s): 32-bit, 64-bit

Or do you think that 2 GB RAM are simply not good enough to play the game on any PC?
from http://www.rebornevo.com/index.php?/pr/index.html/

System Recommendations:

Windows XP or later
Mac OS with Wine (see Mac Guide)
2+ GB RAM (4+ is better)
750 MB Hard Drive Space

So the developers of Pokemon Reborn recommends more.

[edit]
from http://www.rebornevo.com/forum/index.ph ... -for-macs/
(the MacOs Wine FAQ)

Q. The game seems to be lagging quite a bit. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

A. Unfortunately, there isn't much that can be done outside of the use of third party applications. The game naturally runs a bit slow even on PC, so through the use of an application such as Wine, it's expected to be a bit slower. However, it can be easily tolerated after a little time to adjust.

Thanks for the reply!

Okay, I already knew about the system recommendations but I was unsure whether the problem
was my system or Wine itself. Also, the man who made that tutorial stated that he doesn't know
anything about Linux and that he couldn't help. Furthermore, he says 'after a little time to
adjust'. Obviously, I asked myself what I could adjust... But I guess the combination of both
Wine and and supposedly the little lack of memory makes it impossible to do something, right?

Is there a lot of console output when you run the game? If so, running it with WINEDEBUG=-all might speed it up a bit.

Yeah, there some output and I already tried this command before after reading the Wine FAQ but unfortunately, it doesn't speed it up significantly.

Model name: Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N2600 @ 1.60GHz
I think this is this real bottleneck, not the memory.
