I'm running Linux mint rosa cinnamon 17.3 on a Dell laptop. Wine 1.6 installed with no trouble but would run some Win 7 programs. A post by by Scott Ritchie said it was missing mfc40.dll copy into system 32 file. He didn't say where or how to access system 32 folder in Linux or Wine. Googled the problem and the best answer was to wipe out Wine 1.6 and install Wine 1.8.1. So I went to Wine HQ and downloaded it. Now the trouble starts. Followed the links from download page to end up installation section. Trouble is they talk about everything but HOW TO INST THIS DAMN THING! Guess these techies expect everyone to be a techie. Back to Google searched two to install Wine 1.8.1. Got no less than 6 different ways and not on of them works! Wine 1.6 was install thru Linux software manager and it was a breeze. This one now has become a nightmare very reminiscent of Microsoft crap.
I need some help please.
wine 1.8.1 install
Re: wine 1.8.1 install
WineHQ doesn't package 1.8.1 and I don't know of anyone who does. There are WineHQ packages for the latest development and staging releases. https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu
