Wine mess, how to uninstall ?

Post by R.z »

I've had wine 10.8.something for a while now, always used it to run simple exe files. Yesterday I tried to run one that required me to update to a current version so I download WineHQ, which made me install a few other things with it. The software ran and worked but today I am trying to run another exe and nothing works. Wine HQ does nothing, I see the name of the app on my menu bar and that's it, and at a point it disappears.
Honestly Wine always confused me so I have no idea what's going on now.
I downloaded again wine 10.8.6 and installed it, hoping that would make a difference or that I could open my file with the other version of wine, but now when I try to run my exe file with it I get: "prefix creation exited with error", a log file, and it does not open...
So this is all chinese to me and I have no idea what to do, I am thinking about deleting both of these completely, but even that seems really complicated. Any help would be appreciated.
I am on High Sierra 10.13.6.
I downloaded both as packages and just ran the normal os installation.
Can you guys tell me what to do please ?
Thanks
