Wallace & Gromit: Project Zoo does not play cutscene videos

Post by SD94 »

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum.

I have spent some time now trying to get the cutscene videos in Project Zoo to play. As I understand from the AppDB it is the "quartz MPEG splitter: MPEG-1 system streams not supported" bug.

After some searching I found that several of the other games that have this bug have workarounds to fix the problem. I have heard, for example, setting quartz to native in wine should fix the issue. I have also heard that installing LAV filters could fix it, or ffdshow.

I created a Windows XP wine prefix and installed the game with the noCD patch. I found that when running the game, it would run fine exept for the MPEG-1 cutscene videos, which were skipped. In the log it said:

err:quartz:GetClassMediaFile Media class not found

So, I then installed DirectX End-User Runtimes Feb 2010 and set quartz to native. After this, the game still did not play the videos but it not longer showed an error in the log. It just said:

**** movie starting ****
**** movie ending ****

Then I installed the K-lite codec pack (1410) which again, did not fix the video problem. The log now says this:

**** movie starting ****

fixme:module:load_library unsupported flag(s) used (flags: 0x00000800)
**** movie stopped ****

Does anyone know what these errors actually mean?

Also, can anyone give me some advice on other things to try that may fix the problem?

Thank you very much!

UPDATE:

I have updated wine to the latest version and completely rebuilt the 32bit windows XP prefix. I have got a little further now as the audio for the videos is working, I get a black screen but I hear the audio.

The log now says:

0033:err:avicap:query_video_device Video 4 Linux support not enabled
