Sims 1 runs BUT Sims appear all white / no texture

Post by nizikizi »

Hey guys,

First time posting on the forum, I am playing The Sims: Complete Collection on my Mac running High Sierra 10.13.2. I have installed Wine 3.0 but had to use Wine Staging 2.21 for the game to start. Now that it has loaded and let me in, my Sims appear in white (see attached screenshot). What's bothering me is this :

err:d3d:wined3d_set_adapter_display_mode Failed to read mode from registry.
err:d3d:wined3d_swapchain_activate Failed to set display mode.

at the end of the Terminal output. I deleted the lines that are being repeated like 100 times and replaced it by (...). Here it is :

Nicks-MacBook-Pro:~ bz$ cd "/Users/bz/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Maxis/Les Sims/"
wiNicks-MacBook-Pro:Les Sims bz$ wine "/Users/bz/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Max/Les Sims/sims.exe" -skip_intro -skip_verify -f -r800x600
fixme:winediag:start_process Wine Staging 2.21 is a testing version containing experimental patches.

Hello nizikizi

There is some likehood that Sims characters are whitened out due to fixme:ddraw:d3d_device7_GetClipStatus and d3d_device7_SetClipStatus
fixme:ddraw:d3d_device7_SetClipStatus

2d game Revenant also suffered form whitened out doors somewhere time before wine 2.2 and after wine 2.21. More interesting, that took place due to the same fixme's as in Sims
See https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37070
(fixme:ddraw:d3d_device7_SetClipStatus iface 0x1374c8, clip_status 0x33ea54 stub!
fixme:ddraw:d3d_device7_GetClipStatus iface 0x1374c8, clip_status 0x33ea70 stub!)

That bug was fixed in wine 2.2 and broke againg in 2.21 (or so)

Just out of curiosity, try remove your recent wine, delete ~/.wine
After that, install wine 2.2, sims and launch it with -skip_verify -skip_intro to avoid crash at game start.

BTW, uyjulian gave it Gold rating in 2.2
"What works

Installation (requires you to unmount a disc before you insert the next disc)

Game (you need to run the game with the command line arguments "-skip_verify -skip_intro", otherwise the game will not run properly)

What does not

The intro does not work; it just black screens for a few seconds and closes (use the "-skip_intro" argument to work around this issue)

The game wants to run with 16-bit color (use the "-skip_verify" argument to work around this)"

He didn't mention whitened out figures.

See https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... ngId=97442

Good luck

Hey besos,

Unfortunately it did not work on my system. I tried Wine-staging 2.19 and 2.20 + Wine 2.19 and 2.20 and it gave me the exact same result.

If you ever find any workaround let me know.

thanks for your help.
