Problem with save files during game
Before I posted a bug report for the Witcher 1, I thought I'd ask on the forum if anyone else was having trouble with Witcher 1 save files. Essentially the problem lies in that quests are not being saved to files so that if I save and try to reload the game, the quest info+progress will have disappeared. This only cropped up at Chapter 3.
One other person encountered this in chapter 2. We've discussing it on the AppDB page. I'm on a Mac using Wine engine 1.3.13. He's using Gentoo Linux using 1.3.22.
This problem with the Witcher 1 does not happen on Windows. Has anyone else experienced this problem in this game or another? If so, did you solve it?
Cheers.

bump for help! If you need more information, let me know ...
Re: Problem with save files during game
Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm experiencing the exact same problem: Wineskin on OS X, missing quests from chapter 3 onward plus the Gravedigger. And I'm actually using the CXG 9.2 engine, so this problem definitely isn't specific to one engine version. I just discovered it (and this thread, plus the AppDBB and GOG threads) today, so no progress on fixing it on my end, but you aren't the only person experiencing this issue. Have you made any progress since your last post?

Re: Problem with save files during game
Sadly no. I finished the game on my Windows partition, but never did find a fix for the WINE problem. I guess it's time to make a bug report? That is three of us who found this bug on 2 operating systems on multiple engines. Ah well.knot wrote:Just wanted to chime in and say that I'm experiencing the exact same problem: Wineskin on OS X, missing quests from chapter 3 onward plus the Gravedigger. Re: Problem with save files during game
Did you finish the game in Windows, or in Wine? Also, can you try to generate a logging file where the save game problem appears and post it to a site like pastebin.com? This may help discover what is breaking when you try to save.crazy_dave wrote:Sadly no. I finished the game on my Windows partition, but never did find a fix for the WINE problem. I also have a windows 7 partition on my computer for those things not yet working in WINE. I finished the game on the Windows 7 partition.jjmckenzie wrote:Did you finish the game in Windows, or in Wine? If it possible to generate a file one just for the save game feature

When you were using Wine, were you trying to save the games on your Windows partition?crazy_dave wrote: I also have a windows 7 partition on my computer for those things not yet working in WINE. I finished the game on the Windows 7 partition.

No, it was saving to the OS X side or within the App's wineskin itself - I tried both, same result.dimesio wrote:When you were using Wine, were you trying to save the games on your Windows partition?crazy_dave wrote: I also have a windows 7 partition on my computer for those things not yet working in WINE. I can copy save files between the Windows and Mac partitions.
Re: Problem with save files during game
You need to test in plain Wine.crazy_dave wrote: within the App's wineskin itself

You're the one planning on filing a bug report. Bug reports have to be for plain Wine.crazy_dave wrote:Sorry He's running Gentoo Linux.crazy_dave wrote:Someone else also was using Wine on a Linux machine and got the same problem (Linux Mint 11). I apologize for taking so long, work and real life intruded.
It looks like the error associated with saving is:
fixme:file:MoveFileWithProgressW MOVEFILE_WRITE_THROUGH unimplemented
I hope this helps! Cheers.

Unimplemented is usually a bug. Some routine is missing from a dll. That's ajjmckenzie wrote:Here is the pastebin file: http://pastebin.com/ZEfT0RqwYes, there is a process for generating logging files as explained in the

Darn ... according to dimesio I shouldn't create a bug report due to the fact I am using Wineskin rather than normal Wine.Business Kid wrote:On 27 July 2011 21:23, crazy_dave <[email protected]> wrote:

Would this be the kind of error that it would be okay for me to fill out a bug report on? (Provided of course that I am correct in my belief that this fixme is the cause of the bug, but it seems to fit quite well). Did you take a look at the whole pastebin file?

We don't support third party applications, like Wineskin because they
may and do make changes, insert code, etc. that affects the way that
programs run with Wine.

Get Wine through MacPorts and install the program that way. Then run itBusiness Kid wrote:Darn ... according to dimesio I shouldn't create a bug report due to the fact I am using Wineskin rather than normal Wine.On 27 July 2011 21:23, crazy_dave<[email protected]> wrote:
