Diablo 1 on Mac OS X

Post by sagarp14 »

I have a problem with the directdraw for diablo 1 on my mac. I have read through a few topics but can't seem to find the answer to my question. Also I have looked at the app in appdb but the help given there is not for mac. I have tried to do what it says but it seems like it doesn't work on my computer. I am new to wine by the way. If anyone can help me can they write out what to do in clear easy to understand steps?

Fix what? You haven't told us what the problem is. We're not psychic.

Well I installed diablo 1 using wine 1.3.10 and when I try to run it I get an error saying "Diablo was unable to properly initialize your video card using Direct X". Also it says the error was "unknown error 0x80004001 at: dx.cpp line 183". I have not done anything to wine, everything is just like I had installed it.

Here is the complete output (It seems to contain some garbage in it as well).

Most of that is usually in there whenever I run any program in wine. Is that specific enough?

Also this is from the updated 1.09 version of diablo 1. I tried it before I updated but it just gave the same result.

your probably using an old (or Apple version) of X11.. and its trying to adjust the screen resolution and it cannot. Either go in winecfg and set it to a virtual desktop and always play in a window... or try using Xquartz 2.6.0, and going into winecfg and disabling letting the window manager decorate or control windows... and see if fullscreen and resolution switching work ok. (RandR support for resolution changing and stuff is brand new in Xquartz 2.6.0)

Thank you that worked. Now I just need to figure out how to run it without the cd. I don't want to keep the cd in there when I play.

if its legal where you live.. you can look for a standard Windows no CD hacked exe... this is usually good, but beware, as at times certain malware is packaged up to look like a no-cd crack.
