How to use app info with games.

Post by jnyreb »

in the app index I noticed that early "Call of Duty" test well on some versions of wine. Should i load the version of wine that works with each game or should I try the latest version first. I have tried to use wine some years ago with spotty results but I have never tried loading a different wine version for each game.

I am running Ubuntu 20.04 fully updated. On that subject, is there linux distro wine particularly likes?

Thanks for your help.

Short answer is to try a current wine version first, yes. There's a bit more explanation in the faq here: https://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#Which_versi ... d_I_use.3F

If current wine doesn't work you can try older versions, though ideally you'd file a bug in that case. It's also possible to have multiple wine versions installed if necessary. There are wrappers that make that easier but they aren't officially supported.

As far as distros go Ubuntu is one that winehq builds official packages for so that's fine. If you haven't already instructions on installing those are here: https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu
