Ubuntu vs Debian

Post by Teodore »

Which distro is better to test WINE development, Ubuntu or Debian? Looks like there are less development libraries (packages) available on Ubuntu. So what should I do?

I imagine they could be similar/identical as Ubuntu is debian-based I think? Just off-the-cuff until you get a better response.

There shouldn't be much difference really. More important could be which release of either you use. With Debian stable or an LTS Ubuntu release there may be more work involved in getting updated libraries while Debian testing or unstable or whatever the newer Ubuntu releases are called may have everything already.

e: Though I see in your other thread you may need vkd3d which apparently neither have the latest version? If you're still intent on building wine rather than just using the provided packages it's doable but. eh.
