Aero Theme

Post by aero »

Hello,

i tried to install Windows 10 Aero but it doesn't work. These were my steps:

1. Copy "C:\Windows\Resources" from a Windows 10 system to ".../.wine/drive_c/windows/Resources".

2. Running winecfg

3. Selecting "Desktop integration - Install theme - aero.msstyles"

--> Problem: Theme isn't displayed in list

4. Starting .exe via wine <program.exe> leads to the following error:

"UnhandledPromiseRejectionWArning: Unhandled promise rejection (rejection id: 2): Error: Aero disabled"

How can i install "Aero" and get rid of this error?

Best regards
aero

Perhaps report it as a bug if it isn't already?
I can confirm that this is the case with Wine 7.0-rc1 still.

I don't believe Wine supports anything beyond Windows XP themes. See Wikipedia's article on MSSTYLES for the differences between Windows XP's and Windows Vista and above's theme files: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MSSTYLES

Even then, it seems rather picky with which themes it detects and loads - with WINEARCH=win64 (my default), I couldn't get this "Ubuntu Light" theme to show up under winecfg's "Theme" dropdown. The same theme, however, worked just fine with WINEARCH=win32 (as far as I can tell).
(It's possible I did something different between the two architectures while testing.)

On the other hand, "Zune Style", a Windows XP theme produced by Microsoft themselves, works well with WINEARCH=win64. There are other themes of similar caliber listed here: https://microsoft.fandom.com/wiki/Windows_XP_themes
