My Wine install seems to provoke X11/distro crashes

Post by byjove01 »

Hello.

Since I changed my account's username, Wine actually managed to act in a bizarre way.
When I launch a "complex" program - generally 3D games or even 2D ones, notably games using DXVK - it doesn't launch, but as much as time goes on, my desktop's smoothness is going away and when I am not able to quickly type

Code: Select all

killall wineserver
it finishes by a full freeze of my desktop and I am forced to reboot the computer.

All of my Wine builds are concerned apparently, so it's not really related to the build but to Wine itself. Or maybe my computer's deep settings, I don't know, the one thing I know is that I can still use some programs like Photoshop, and that crashes of this kind are targetting most of my games powered by Wine. (except some of them, like Stronghold)

What solution could you propose me? Thanks in advance.

Looks good.

Is the new user a member of the same groups as the old one?
Does Wine give you an error message when you start a "complex" program from the terminal?
Is the new user the owner of the Wineprefix?

Yes for the first and last question, and no for the second one. I just got the same output than before.

Ok, I guess it was related to the groups or something like this. Since I repaired an issue with my account username and was able to change it, Wine's behavior came back to normal. Thanks you for your help, it's solved!
