Unable to install Wine

Post by GsB »

I receive the message "Malformed entry 58 in list file /etc/apt/sources.list". This comes up both from terminal and from the Ubuntu software installation page.

I have previously had a version of Wine installed, but uninstalled it.
How to fix?

There is an error on line 58 in the file /etc/apt/sources.list

What is the output of

Code: Select all

sed -n 56,60p /etc/apt/sources.list

You need a space between /ubuntu/ and focal or groovy.

Also you should only have one of focal and groovy, whichever corresponds to your Ubuntu version.

Thanks, Spoon0042. However this didn't work. Got the same result

Could you post the entire output of

Code: Select all

cat /etc/apt/sources.list
Please, use the forum code-tags (the </> button)

I expect that a section has been lost, because the output only has 19 lines.
Based on the output, your /etc/apt/sources.list could look like this:

Code: Select all

# The Ubuntu Focal repositories
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ focal main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ focal-updates main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ focal-backports main restricted universe multiverse
deb http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal-security main restricted universe multiverse

# The WineHQ repository
deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ focal main

These lines should be deleted:

Code: Select all

deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/focal main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/focal main
deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/groovy main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/groovy main
The (next to) last one is correct:

Code: Select all

deb https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ focal main
# deb-src https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/ focal main
