Hello.

My laptop:
Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU B960 @ 2.20GHz
Integrated graphics, 4GB RAM
Wine 6.0 on Zorin 15.3 (Ubuntu 18.04.5 LTS)

I get an error trying to run Civilization Beyond Earth using PlayOnLinux 4.3.4. I thought it may be the integrated graphics but my desktop (Asus Rampage II Extreme, Nvidia 750Ti, 6GB RAM) also gave me the error. Hoping someone can help me out. I tried this after installing both as a 32 bit and 64 bit and still get the error.

I could not find a legit free version on the net. I found something it the wine source documentation that indicates this set of functions are used to communicate with a server, so I have to ask - does this connect to a remote server?

There's no chance that this game will run on your laptop. It should run on your desktop, on the Nvidia graphics card.

Looking at: Sid Meier's Civilization®: Beyond Earth™ ; you'd probably want to try the native game on Steam.
If this fails then I would typically try enabling Steam Play / Proton - for this title.

If you haven't bought the game on Steam (oh dear :cry: ), then you'll probably need to setup Vulkan (32-bit + 64-bit) manually and use the dxvk Vulkan -> DirectX 9.0c/10/11 translation layer:

Hey, thanks Bob, this fixed my low FPS issue in Wow! I already had nvidia's vulkan drivers, the vulkan library, and packages from dxvk, so is this an additional layer? Or did winetricks fix a bad install on my part? Just glad it's fully working! Thanks.

Vulkan (Wikipedia) is a cross-platform graphics API layer - originally based on AMD's Mantle (Wikipedia) - that effectively / eventually will replace OpenGL (Wikipedia).

dxvk is a shim layer that converts native Windows DirectX 9.0c / 10 / 11 API calls directly to Vulkan (Wikipedia) calls. This tends to be more efficient than the stock Wine translation layer that converts DirectX DirectX 9.0c / 10 / 11 calls to OpenGL (Wikipedia).

The eventual aim is for Wine to use a builtin translation layer that also translates Windows DirectX 9.0c / 10 / 11 API calls directly to Vulkan calls. There is already an existing Wine DirectX 12 to Vulkan translation - called vkd3d.

I've been pushing the dxvk verbs to winetricks. The verb just pulls down the latest dxvk release binaries and installs them to currently specified WINEPREFIX ... It's handy for quickly setting up dxvk!

I generally just use Steam + Proton-GE for Linux gaming these days. If I want to go hardcore "manual" I will typically use the app-emulation/dxvk package these days (now I've got my mingw64 build-chain sorted out!)
