Wine 6.0 on 16.04?

Post by Bamm »

One of my machines is still on 16.04 and is on the wine-stable repository, but it didn't update to Wine 6.0. It stayed on 5.0.3. I checked the repository and it doesn't contain builds for 16.04. Is there a way to run Wine 6.0 on 16.04, aside from hoping that the repo would soon add support for it (very unlikely)?

I discontinued building packages for 16.04 last fall after having to cope with repeated build failures due to old libraries. You are free to try building Wine yourself, but since 16.04 goes EOL in April anyway, it may not be worth the trouble.

Thanks dimesio. Since it is a technical issue then I guess I have no choice. I was planning to wait until April to upgrade this but this should be good enough reason for me to upgrade it already. Thanks for the work on the repositories, you are doing a big help to us end users.
