KindleForPC on Debian Buster and Ubuntu 18.04

I am trying to get Kindle working on new installs of Winehq-stable 5.0.3, one on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and one on Debian 10.6. I installed pre-requisites on ubuntu which I found in a post, and gecko and mono on both, and had no problems with wine. I checked the wine install by also installing a windows image browser FSViewer and it runs fine. Kobo installs and runs successfully on both, but Kindle won't install on Ubuntu (any version, tried 1.17 and 1.26); 1.17 installs on Debian but can't connect to server and 1.26 fails to install. Kindle seems to be a pain! I have been using it on Android only. Anyone had better luck with Kindle on Linux?
