Is WINE good enough for gaming?

Post by yerkopil8 »

~~Months ago, back around April, I jumped ship to Linux, eventually having to jump back to it literally for nothing but game support. I loved Linux from the start, but majority of game developers don’t, unfortunately. Anyway, I’m here to ask if WINE can run (recent) things well without much issues and such? Like ReDoom.

The official answer is: Some games work out of the box, some games needs some workarounds, some games don't work at all.
Here are some links where you can find how well a game works with Wine:
https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... plications
https://store.steampowered.com/linux
https://www.protondb.com
https://lutris.net/games
Like ReDoom.
This game, runs out of the box with Wine 5.16

If you mainly play games with your computer, and you are not very tech savvy (like to troubleshoot and compile custom patches), Linux is not the best platform.

Lots of games work very well using steam (proton), but it usually is not supported on launch day of a new game. It may take weeks/months to get a game working.
