Hired Guns: The Jagged Egde (aka JAZZ) crashing on text entry

While the AppDB has an entry for this title, with this issue, I know I've had this working in the past.

Several times during the game, the user is expected to enter a password into a text box. Typing anything into the text box immediately crashes the application with an Unhandled access exception error.

In the past, I know I had this title working under Wine, I think I got a hint from the IRC channel or some random website that tipped me off to a setting or override that needs to be set to allow the rendering of text.

I've already tried installing DirectX 9, all fonts and fontfix from Winetricks. Aside from the exception, there isn't much in the log aside from Wine's normal issues with shaders.
