Warning: need 16MB RAM

Post by ekbann »

I am running ChessBase Fritz 6 (1999 Windows 98 chess program) under Debian 10 (Intel Celeron 64-bit) and Wine 5.0 in a 32-bit prefix. The program runs without problems but complains about lack of memory at the start (see picture). This lack of memory would severely hinder the chess engine so how to fix it? I have tried changing in winecfg the Windows environment to Windows 95,98,ME,2000,XP, and NT3/4 and all failed to see memory. Running in a 64-bit prefix also did not see memory.

I have noticed that it gives the same message when running on a Windows 10 machine BUT WORKS CORRECTLY when running in Windows XP SP3 compatibility mode! What does compatibility mode do that makes it work correctly so that I can do something similar to Wine?
