changing my MS Office 2003 installation, via setup, fails

Post by sibare »

Hello,

I have tried to install MS Office 2003. I was able to install it in a 32bit prefix. I made a typical installation. But when I wanted to change the installation it failed.

What I did:
After the installation, I made this:

Code: Select all

$ WINEPREFIX=/home/VM-Konto/.local/share/wineprefixes/office2003/ wine uninstaller
There I wanted to change my installation. For example uncheck "Outlook" and add some extensions.

The setup CD started. But then in failed.

Here is a print screen:
Wine Office change error.png

Here is the detail from the error window above (picture above):

Code: Select all

Unhandled exception: page fault on read access to 0x00000006 in 32-bit code (0x7e8926d8).

@sibare

Have you tried changing your WINEPREFIX to Windows XP ?
E.g.:

Code: Select all

export WINEPREFIX="/home/VM-Konto/.local/share/wineprefixes/office2003/"
winetricks winxp

Thank you.

Can I make this without winetricks?

Wouldn't it be enough simply to type in the terminal:

Code: Select all

WINEPREFIX=/home/VM-Konto/.local/share/wineprefixes/office2003/ winecfg
and then change the windows setting:
Wine W7 zu XP.png
I am new on linux and wine. So better to ask before.
Thank you.

That does the same thing... It's often easier to post command line solutions, online, though! :lol:

@sibare

I've installed MS Office 2003 successfully myself, using Wine.
I've never attempted to modify that install though.
It looks like you are hitting a Wine msiexec bug.

I'd suggest retesting with Wine 5.6 (not Staging).
If you are still experiencing this issue, then open a new Wine bug at: Wine Bugzilla.
You can attach your Wine terminal log and backtrace, to this bug report.

Thank you.
I have this issue with wine 2.2 and 5.6.
(I was not able to test it with wine 5.2, because Wine 5.2 has a bug and says, that my license key is wrong.)

Not sure, if I use 5.6 Staging or "not staging". How can I find this out?

@sibare

Your backtrace:

Code: Select all

System information:
    Wine build: wine-5.6 (Staging)
    Platform: i386
    Version: Windows 7
    Host system: Linux
    Host version: 4.19.0-6-amd64
shows that you are using Wine Staging 5.6 ...

You can check your currently active Wine version, with:

Code: Select all

wine --version
The current development release of Wine is 5.6 (not 5.2)...
If the current release of Wine doesn't work, then file the bug using Wine Staging (but mention that the vanilla version of Wine doesn't work)...

@sibare

In the meantime, obviously, you'd be better off using a clean WINEPREFIX and installing the MS Office components / settings you actually want...
Wine Bugs can take years to get fixed (if at all)...

Thank you.

Hopeful, that this will be solved during the next 10 years.
