Hi,
Took a bit of work, but I installed current WINE Staging into Kubuntu 18.04.3 LTS 64Bit Linux.
I then installed Windows Steam game client into WINE.
Problem now is that Windows Steam has display issues(screen flickering)?
Any ideas on how to fix the above issue?
Let me know, thanks!
Jesse
WINE Staging/Windows Steam Game Client - Screen Flickering?
Re: WINE Staging/Windows Steam Game Client - Screen Flickering?
@JeZxLee
There is a workaround, for the new Windows Steam client, mentioned in this reddit thread.
I've still to play around with this, and perhaps add a reference to it, on the WineHQ AppDB Steam page.
UPDATE: So, yeah, the Windows Steam client is really broken now...
The above workaround is kind of useful (but you do lose most of the functionality of the Steam client).
I'm generally using the native Linux Steam client and Steam Play / Proton (proton-ge-custom), for my Steam gaming these days anyway...

Code: Select all
wine steam.exe -no-browser +open steam://open/minigameslist

Most unfortunate...
Many Windows games don't work using "Proton" on Linux Steam.
Hopefully this can be fixed soon?

When it comes to steam, i would venture to say that it is "the best bet" to have a game work with steam... However, that is for steam games, and not a general "windows games". A few games do work better running them under linux steam/proton tho. There is absolutely no reason (imo) to install windows steam client directly in wine to try games. You better try a different proton version compiled from sources like TKGlitch(github) or similar that may have many fixes not present in valve's proton. There are howto's on how to use your own custom proton for the linux steam client.
