Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
You could install some common fonts with:
If this doesn't improve, post a terminal output.
Code: Select all
winetricks -q corefonts
# or with
sudo apt install ttf-mscorefonts-installer
Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi,

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi.
the plugins that I use are simply .dll files: these are charged in the VSTHost (the principal software) simply drag' n'drop inside of it's principal window:
I don't know how to use the wine terminal to make this operation
If you want to try, these are the link to
VSTHost (ps the official site cannot be reached at this time):
https://download.cnet.com/VSTHost-64-bi ... 35689.html
and this is the link for one plugin .dll:
http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... rd&id=3024
PS: Programs/plugins powered/made with Juce are supported with wine?

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Too bad, there's not really much useful information in the terminal output.
You could try:
Install the "fonts-wine" package
If this doesn't give any improvement, post a debug output:
Probably the file "vsthost-font.tar.gz" is small enough to post here.
You could try:
Install the "fonts-wine" package
Code: Select all
sudo apt install fonts-wine
Code: Select all
WINEDEBUG=+font wine vsthost.exe >> vsthost-font.txt 2>&1
tar -czf vsthost-font.tar.gz vsthost-font.txt
Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi,
no improve... this is the .tar.gz with the .txt (I have trouble to copy/paste the output directly)...
THANKS again!

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
The fonts you are missing are inside the .dll or .vst3 files.
Did you use any winetricks in your wineprefix?
If you did, could you test vsthost in a clean wineprefix?

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
After "Open in Terminal", replace the command wine vsthost.exe with the next two commands and post the output:
Also, you could try a clean/ new wine prefix:
Code: Select all
cat /home/kernel/.wine/winetricks.log
wine uninstaller --list
Code: Select all
WINEPREFIX=~/wine-vsthost wine vsthost.exe
Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi, IT WORKS WITH THE NEW PREFIX!!!!! (sorry for this stupid question, but what is one wine prefix? )
BUT now I try to open these .vst/.vst3 windows files with one Linux DAW software like Reaper... (VSThost is a windows program; but these plugins are opened also with many Linux software like Reaper or Bitwig Studio and so on). These plugins are bridged with LinVST or LinVST3... I try but I wondered how wine works in this mode....
this is the output of the two operations:

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Ok,
as expected there are the same problems when the plugin is loaded into a Linux software:
VSTHost is a windows program and the .vst / .vst3 also are windows programs
BUT in this case, the windows plugins are loaded into a Linux software and bridged with LinVST and LinVST3 software: in this situation the problem remain...
according to you, there is a way to fix this situation?
I found this link that definitely helps to understand what I mean (wine and LinVST for use .dll into a Linux DAW (surely you understand a lot more than me))

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Somehow there's an error in the default wineprefix (the /home/kernel/.wine directory).
I recommend to rename this directory, create a new wineprefix and reinstall the programs you want.
Make sure to test the vsthost program after you install other programs, so you know the culprit if something went wrong.

Code: Select all
cd /home/kernel/
mv .wine .wine-backup
wineboot
cp -r .wine-backup/drive_c/VST ./wine/drive_c/
cd /home/kernel/.wine/drive_c/VST/vsthostx64/

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi,
all your suggestions works. Now vsthostx64 shows correctly the vst's fonts.... Thanks!
But if I use these vst into a Linux program, (VSThost is a windows program) the fonts problems come back... there is one way to fix them?
thanks again for now....

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi,
I installed Reaper Linux Version and the fonts problems come back... I don't understand how wine works in this situation: the main audio software is Reaper (LINUX version) and the plugins that frequently I use is for windows: these are bridged with LinVST and LinVST3, BUT in many cases the font problems come back..... In Reaper (Linux version) I set the windows VST path
.wine/drive_c/VST/x64/...
.wine/drive_c/VST/x32/...
Many plugins are showed correctly but many others no..... I wouldn't even know what to write to set a correct wineprefix...
What can I do now?
Thanks again, I hope to fix these problems....

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
I can't reproduce the font issue with the Lagrange (32 or 64 bit) plugin or with the Ripchord plugin. Do these plugins work for you? Could you post a link to a plugin that can cause problems?
Do I understand correctly that you can run vsthost with:
Or do you have to run:
LinVST uses the default wineprefix (the .wine directory in your home folder) That is why I asked you to rename this folder and let Wine create a new one.I wouldn't even know what to write to set a correct wineprefix...
Do I understand correctly that you can run vsthost with:
Code: Select all
wine vsthost.exe
Code: Select all
WINEPREFIX=~/wine-vsthost wine vsthost.exe
Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi,
first of all, very thanks for your support!
At this point I believe that I have mistake anything in the installation of wine: I remember that I had problems installing GEKO, and I don't understand if geko is installed correctly into my system... exist one possible correlation between Geko and the font problems?
or
or I am mistaken the way of use of wine: for example, I don't use the command for generate the LinVST3 bridging the first time.... It's wrong?
All the plugins that I showed and many others hawe thes font visualization problems....
If I use these plugins in VstHost with the new Wineprefix that You hawe posted, all works fine: NO FONT PROBLEMS,
BUT if I open these plugins with Reaper (LINUX version), font problems coming back in Reaper....
thanks again......

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
Hi,
I have eliminate many plugins from my VST free folder and now works perfectly all that I have indicated..... Thanks for your patience and for your support!!!!
probably some plugins created problems or conflicts and this sent wine into crisis (???).... but now works!
Thanks again!

Re: Font problems on many audio plugins
I'm glad you found the solution!
Let me know if you find the plug-in that is causing the problem.
