Font Jank in EV Nova

So EV Nova is listed as compatible, however when I run it I'm getting what I would describe as font Jank. The game being largely text based, this is a bit of an issue. Now the font is less than satisfactory on windows too, so someone came up with a replacement font here, so I figured that would be a find candidate to drop into

, but to no avail. I'm using wine-3.6 (Ubuntu 3.6-1) on Lubuntu, but I can test any fixes on different versions of Linux if that would help. The app is 32 bit so I guess it won't run on MacOS.
