32-bit hardware, wine installation process

Using, for example, the instructions for installing wine on an ubuntu system, does the installer make the determination of the hardware and therefore install either the 32-bit version of wine or the 64-bit version of wine?

I don't see anything mentioned for separate wine installation instructions for 32 or 64 bit procedures.

I tried searching the forum but couldn't find what I'm looking for.

If your system is 64 bit, enable 32 bit architecture (if you haven't already):
sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

If you follow the WineHQ installation instructions, you will install the 32 and 64 bit versions of Wine on an 64 bit system
and the 32 bit version of Wine on a 32 bit system.

If you don't enable the 32 bit architecture on a 64 bit system, you will install a 64 bit only Wine system.
