Wine 4: Detecting HID devices does still not work since 3.03

Post by Gerold »

Detecting and working with HID devices worked fine with 3.03 (and earlier; 2.8 for example) but since 3.14 it does not work any more. (maybe some releases between 3.03 and 3.14 are working, but I did not test all of them).

I was hoping, that it will work with release 4.0, but no. Same with CrossOver: worked fine with 17.5.1 (based on Wine 2.8) but not with CrossOver 18.x (based on 3.14).

One the page
https://wiki.winehq.org/Hid
they recommand hclient.exe as a tool for device testing.

Why do WINE developers not use it? If a HID mouse is not listed, it's not working. That's it.

@Gerold

A more productive use of your time would be to file a Wine bug report.
E.g. following the format of: Bug 41722 - hidtest.exe crashes if Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000 or Stamps.com Digital Scale is plugged in .

At least then you'll get the attention of Aric Stewart (the current, primary/only?, Wine HID developer).

If you are trying / testing multiple devices, which are causing issues, then you may want to file separate bug reports for each one...

Otherwise the tumbleweed will be blowing past, as you rage on this (low volume) forum. 8)
