Hi there - am a newbie on both Linux and Wine, so request your patience. I am trying to get MSOFFICE 2016 365 installed after installing wine32 and winetricks.

Have also done this:
Code:
 $ sudo apt-get install wine32
$ export WINEARCH=win32
$ export WINEPREFIX=~/.msoffice
$ winetricks winecfg
$ winetricks corefonts
$ winetricks dotnet20 gdiplus msxml6 riched20
$ sudo apt-get install winbind
$ wine setup.exe /configure configuration-Office365-x86.xml

I see the orange box of MS office start, but it vanishes and I see the below in the Terminal Window. Have tried uninstalling Wine fully and re-installing everything, but to no avail.

Quote:
wine: Call from 0x7b44e2f6 to unimplemented function ucrtbase.dll.__processing_throw, aborting
003b:err:seh:setup_exception stack overflow 1552 bytes in thread 003b eip 000000007bc5fdf7 esp 0000000000141000 stack 0x140000-0x141000-0x240000

Any help here will be deeply appreciated.
regards,
RHCP

You'll want the full Syswow64 Wine package(s) for Ubuntu - not the stock repository versions.
These are available from WineHQ or OBS - depending on which version of Ubuntu you are running.
Sadly, as you haven't stated what your OS is, I can't be more specific... :cry:

Also see: WineHQ AppDB: Microsoft Office (installer only) / 365 ProPlus (2016) for a full installation guide (once you have a working Wine version installed).

Thanks
Bob

HI Bob - Thanks for the reply. Sorry, forgot to mention - am using Ubuntu 18.10. My machine is a 64 bit machine with an i5 processor.

Couple of additional comments and questions if you please -
- I had first installed wine64 (standard install), but saw on some of the forums that a 32bit installation is required. tried the export method, didn't work
- Then installed wine32 and tried, but no joy
- Then did what i mentioned below, still nothing.

How do i get the syswow64 Wine package? and to install that do I need to uninstall everything i've installed so far first?
Also, from the link you sent, would i be correct in assuming that instead of pacman i should be using apt install given Ubuntu?

Many thanks in advance, and really appreciate your help - i am a recent convert to ubuntu, and am still finding my way around.

regards,
RHCP

Heh, heh... Talk about jumping in head first then! :shock:
Getting a recent version of office to install is fairly demanding - as you can see from that walk-through link I posted.

The main Ubuntu / Debian package managers are apt and aptitude.
pacman is used by Arch Linux (and derivatives).

For a 64-bit OS/machine you want the standard multiarch WineHQ packages - so both the 32-bit and 64-bit parts.
You'll need to install the Ubuntu 18.10 packages from the OpenSUSE Build Service (OBS).
For a guide, see the WineHQ Wiki: Ubuntu Download.

You'll probably want to start by installing the winehq-stable package.
I often find this doesn't work (as it has very few backported fixes) - but it's a good place to start!

Bob

Hi Bob -

Uninstalled my existing installations (including autoremove and autoclean) and added the repo you'd provided. Then followed the Office 365 installation steps as per https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=35527

After step 7, The MSOffice orange box appeared and then left a huge error log, and I'm back to square-one.
The error message / log is as below:

Kindly help.
Much gratitude,

Hi again - I managed to install MS Office 365 2016 now, but can't run any of the programs.

I uninstalled everything and re-installed wine again, following steps in https://wiki.winehq.org/Ubuntu
but this time installed the development version.

Then followed the steps in https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=35527

I tried to run excel using Wine Windows Program loader, but nothing happens.

What am I doing wrong ?

Thanks very much in advance

Hi - please see attached log from starting excel through the terminal

Code:
export WINEARCH=win32
export WINEPREFIX=~/.msoffice
cd '.msoffice/drive_c/Program Files/Microsoft Office/root/Office16'
wine excel.exe &> ~/Documents/winelog.txt

I have the file, but am unable to attach it as none of the extensions are allowed. have tried .txt, .odt, and .pdf in the upload attachment, but none of them is allowed. Any pointers to attach the log appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Well, there's a crash, it doesn't open properly.

You created a fresh WINEPREFIX, right? What exactly did you do? Did you use all workarounds?

Hi - I used fresh wine prefix , used all workarounds - have even uninstalled again and followed all steps again. Still no joy. I can see attached the executables in the 32 bit prefix, but when running it goes looking in the 64 bit folder. On one of the runs, it looked for.a Z: drive, which was a bit odd.

What about testing MS Office, with the winehq-devel and winehq-staging packages?

winehq-stable is only 'stable' - if you application actually works, when using it!
It's probably useful for people that like to run 'older' applications...
But MS Office 2016, doesn't fall into that category...

Hi all - I finally managed to install Office 2013 on Ubuntu by using PlayonLinux and the attached script.
Everything works just fine now. I believe the script can be modified to use other versions of wine, but I used it as is and no complaints so far

Thank you all for all the help and guidance in this process. Really appreciate the community.
