Mint 19 and Wine error and best version of Wine?

Post by Novatian »

I have installed Mint 19 MATE on my HP desktop. I comes with playonlinux, which I think is based on WINE 1.78. I could not cause it to run e-sword or iTunes. It crashed. It read errors occurred, FS_Check and POL_Wine. I had difficulty understanding the new GUI. AMD64 and x86. I tried both Windows 2007 and Windows 8.

So I began to uninstall Wine to either re-install or use a terminal to install and newer version of Wine. Which is better, and depending, which version of Wine is best to install?

What commands need go in the terminal? Is there a tutorial?

Why is there a "playonlinux" pre-installed instead of simply, "Wine"?

Can Mint 19 run Wine 3.0.2?

I much like to run e-sword and iTunes. Help is appreciated.

1) Usually the newest version of wine is the best
2) Just run "wine EXECUTABLE" in the terminal, ofc you need to use the path of the executable here. For more info, check the WINE FAQ
3) Dunno why playonlinux is pre-installed, you have to ask the distro maintainers for that. But keep in mind that playonlinux is simply a frontend for wine
4) Yes, Mint 19 can run Wine 3.0.2
