How install in OpenSUSE the MetaTrader 5

Post by josemanoelportugal »

Hello

I am trying to install Meta Trader 5 (MT5 - https://www.metatrader5.com/en/download ) but the installer gets to inform proxi settings

I have seen several posts asking for solitude for the problem, the only ones that claim to be successful were the Ubuntu distribution users
But I can not exit the OpenSUSE Distribution
I've upgraded to the brand new Leap 15 version, but the problem continues.
Every time I try to install, I am asked to put information about the Proxi server .... as I have not, I do not put anything and the installation is aborted.
I tried to find a solution on the MetaTrader site but they just say that the application works with the Ubuntu distribution .... That does not solve my problem.
Please, be friends with me and sayhow do I solve this problem?

@josemanoelportugal

I doubt the Linux Distribution you are using, will have much bearing on Wine installations (although there are some gcc 8.1.0 issues open).

I've got demo copies of MetaTrader 5 in both a 32-bit WINEPREFIX and a 64-bit WINEPREFIX - for testing purposes only.
The application appears to work fine (but frankly I wouldn't have a clue what to do with it!)

I didn't need any overrides or workarounds to get the demo version working.

Perhaps you could post some terminal output from Wine, if you're having "issues" with the full version of MT5?
See: WineHQ FAQ: 10.1.1 How can I get a debugging log (a.k.a. terminal output)?

Thank you for answering
that's the text from log.txt
The first line always appears with any ".exe", even with notepad, but does not prevent the operation

What timezone are you in? That reminds me of https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32916.

Timezone errors can prevent apps from working. The one in bug 32916 was fixed long ago, but it's possible there are other timezones that aren't working properly.

Sorry, I just wanted to say that this topic wants to talk about installing metatrader and not about timezone

I think timezone not affect the installation

A networking failure of unknown origin.

And your reasoning for this assertion is??

Rather than thinking you know best, why not just test out dimesio's theory...

This could be tested easily enough with:

Code: Select all

TZ='Europe/London' wine ...
before the failing wine command.

But of course if "you know best", then knock yourself out...

Well, as you can see, I did not kill myself :) and did the test like you said
The result was the same ... the installation opens a window requesting data from the "proxy" and end
Please tell us which distribution you tested MetaTrader
Please...Be pacient
This is the result .....

I tested it in openSUSE Leap 42.2 and didn't have any problem installing and running it in the current development release. There was no window that said anything about a proxy. The beginning of my console output matches what you posted.

I tested it on openSUSE Leap 42.2 and had no problem installing it and running it on the current development version. There was no window that said anything about a proxy. The start of the exit of my console corresponds to what you posted.

So what could be happening?
What can I do to resolve this issue?

And this problem is not just mine. Many people are reporting on various points on the internet. Also on the MetaTrader website.
I have a friend who has four machines, using OpenSUSE 13.2, Leap 4.1, Leap 4.2 and also the Leap 15 All 4 machines give the same problem.
Just yesterday I asked another friend who uses LINUX to do the test and also just got to the message that the proxy server asks for.

Please pay special attention to the case

What version of Wine are you using? From what I get from googling, this was a problem in older versions of Wine. I've tested 3.11 and 3.12; if your Wine version is older than that, please upgrade and retest in a clean wineprefix.

I'm using the latest version of Wine and also the latest version of the operating system OpenSUSE Leap 15
I also did tests with Wine 3.11 and 3.12 and they all give the same result

I have already seen the test on 7 different computers (PCs, notebooks and NEbooks) with several versions of operating systems and all with Wine 3.11 or higher

What's the output from:

Code: Select all

find /usr \( -type f -o -type l \) -name "libgnutls.so" | xargs -I {} sh -c 'echo -e "\n{}:" ; readelf -a {} | grep "cipher_init"'
On the non-working system?
