Will Rock crashing intermittently
Will Rock crashing intermittently
Fedora 27
I am running Will Rock in a window. The game will run fine for a while, but often crashes when opening the in-game menu (esc) or when accessing the options menu on the title screen. Please tell me what I need to install. I tried to upload the Tilix txt file using a number of different extensions; the forum did not like any of them.
Here is the the abbreviated output from the terminal:

Re: Will Rock crashing intermittently
I had the base and good 64-bit libs. I installed the other 6 libraries and rebooted. Trying WR again results in similar but new errors. You are missing GStreamer plugins... Wine typically requires:
base plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
good plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
bad plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries

Another abbreviated version:
Code: Select all
4-11ce-b03a-0020af0ba770}!

wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 0x00000004 at address 0x494635 (thread 0030), starting debugger...
So then I went back and also installed GStreamer1 with
base plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
good plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
bad plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
ugly plugins 32-bit and 64-bit libraries
Now when I run the game it locks up on the intro video screen (the first one that shows on startup). I did manage to get the initial console messages prior to that.

No don't worry, it's a "healing" crisis!Connor84 wrote:...
It would appear that I should uninstall the GStreamer1 plugins. What is next?
You really do want the GStreamer 1.0 packages...
ZF (Wine Developer) would like a terminal log created with:
Code: Select all
export WINEDEBUG=+quartz,+strmbase,+gstreamer
wine ...
As longer logs are impossible to parse on these forums!
Thanks
Bob
Re: Will Rock crashing intermittently
That was fun! I have never created anything on Github before. The link is: https://github.com/Connor84/Wine---WillRock
I did not reinstall the gstreamer1 plugins or 32 bit libs, but the logs will likely note that. Since they totally freeze WR, I am afraid that they will wreck my other wine apps and installing/uninstalling the plugins and libs takes a rediculous amount of time on a computer this new.
Btw I don't understand the healing crisis joke.

I linked to Github Gist for a reason!Connor84 wrote:That was fun! I have never created anything on Github before. The link is: https://github.com/Connor84/Wine---WillRock

You want to post the log as a raw text file there.
A docx file is about as much use as the originator of this baggage ridden document format...
To copy a log file directly to your Desktop Environment clipboard:
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install xclip
cat wine-staging-3.10_quartz_strmbase_gstreamer_log.txt | xclip -i -selection clipboard
Btw it's always best to give log files a sensible name...
Especially if you're attaching them to Bug reports...
To quote the Interwebs:Connor84 wrote:Btw I don't understand the healing crisis joke.
As in Wine still crashes... But things are getting much better... Soon!A healing crisis, or healing reaction, is a temporary worsening of symptoms that occurs when the body is going through the process of healing itself through the elimination of toxins.

Re: Will Rock crashing intermittently
I followed your link and somehow it ended up on Github. I just tried it again and it led me to Github Gist. There be Gremlins in that there puter, there be Gremlins.. yaargh.
apt-get is not a command that is recognized by Fedora. That is a Ubuntu thing. I usually install an rpm via dnfdragora or Gnome package manager. It appears my options are: Gpaste, CopyQ, ClipIt, and Clipman

I think you're terrific. Without Wine (or something equal to it) I wouldn't be using any linux. And really, who else can make an unintelligible joke like you?A docx file is about as much use as the originator of this baggage ridden document format...

Re: Will Rock crashing intermittently
I just noticed you said "document format". I misunderstood your post. I thought you were referring to your post.
Which clipboard would you recommend? Gpaste, CopyQ, ClipIt, and Clipman appear to be my options. Is it the same Terminal command for these?

Oops my bad...Connor84 wrote:...

But give me an honest break! Most users posting on this forum are using Ubuntu (because it's "noob"-friendly)...
On my Fedora 27 install, I can see the standard xclip package in the standard repository:
Code: Select all
dnf search xclip

There are more sophisticated tools that take stdin and post it straight to a pastebin-esque site, automatically.
E.g. see the Arch Wiki: List of Pastebin Clients.
One day I'll get around to checking some of these out...
