I recently installed skyrim onto my linux machine and when I run skyrim the mouse hits the edge of the screen, because of this I am unable to play the game.
any help would be appreciated!

What exactly do you mean?
That free look in game is limited in your axis of rotation?
If, so possibly related to this bug: Bug 30123 - Mouse pointer is confined in a box lesser than the full screen.
If you're playing in fullscreen - then sometimes using a Wine Virtual Desktop - will work around these mouse-warping issues...
This in turn may require setting the mouse warp override registry key - see WineHQ Wiki: Useful Registry Keys.
