Sounds mugen game and alsamixer

Post by Francesco bat »

Hi !
Time ago, same game worked without problems in PCLinuxOS; now it is without sound with alsamixer.
The game is a mugen game: One Piece Final Clash
Executing it in shell i get:

Code: Select all

wine "One Piece Final Clash.exe"

It works with pulseaudio in other PCLinuxOS.
Test audio with alsamixer works and it recognizes driver alsa.
I can not to understand why it is mute.
Someone can help me, please ?
Bye

P.S. Wine is 2.18 version

What's the output from:

Code: Select all

aplay -l
Can you change the default output audio device using the:
winecfg
Audio tab?

Seriously if you don't know how to use ALSA properly then just don't use it... It's a PITA to setup and maintain ALSA.
Pulseaudio may have it's failings - latency / buffering issues - but at least it doesn't stop working randomly like ALSA does...

Thank you for answer !
Audio test works with alsamixer.
This is result of

Code: Select all

aplay -l

Code: Select all

I tried to start vlcportable.exe and i tried various multimedia files, but audio is mute.
The strange thing i tried a windows screensaver of Rssglx (Really Slick Screensavers Glx): Skyrocket
and audio works
I can not to understand it is a codec problem or something other :?

Now i tried to use old firefox version and it play youtube video with audio without problems.
So the problem does not seem to be the alsa driver's recognition but something else, although it's strange I do not have this problem with pulseaudio.
Maybe i need to install some add-ons from winetricks? :?

@Francesco bat,

It's not strange that you don't have issues with Pulseaudio...
ALSA was, and still is, a broken pile of poop. Hence the whole point of creating the Pulseaudio in the first place!

Can you run:

Code: Select all

export WINEDEBUG=+alsa
winecfg &>~/winecfg_alsa_log.txt
and test the output sound there - in the Audio tab.

What is the content of the log file:

Code: Select all

~/winecfg_alsa_log.txt
?

Does sound playback work? That would at least establish that your ALSA multilib setup is useable under Wine.

Thank you !
Wine audio works in alsamixer with audio test, with Skyrocket screensaver and youtube with firefox but it doesn't work with mugen game and vlc.
This is result of winecfg_alsa_log.txt:

@Francesco

That Dropbox link doesn't work for me...

Perhaps I wasn't clear...
Please use a pastebin-type site for Wine terminal logs!!

Right I can follow that quite easily...

0,plughw:0,0 = default ALSA output device. AKA HDA Intel, device 0: VT1708S Analog.
1,plughw:0,0 = default ALSA input device. AKA HDA Intel, device 0: VT1708S Analog.

So now I've got a template for a working ALSA test from your system...

Could you run the game One Piece Final Clash MUGEN... But also with:

Code: Select all

export WINEDEBUG=+alsa
No guarantees I'll be able to decipher this log... But I'll have a go...
Otherwise it might a legitimate basis for a Wine Bug...??

This is starting to look like a mismatch between the ALSA library Wine Staging was built against and your installed system ALSA libraries...

Are all your ALSA (32-bit and 64-bit) library packages and the Wine Staging package from the core PCLinuxOS repositories?

@Francesco
  • What version of alsa-lib are you using?
  • Does the 32-bit version of this library match the version of the 64-bit version (assuming your distribution splits this multilib package)?
These Wine runtime errors (missing dependency libraries) need fixing:

Code: Select all

err:wincodecs:JpegDecoder_CreateInstance Failed reading JPEG because unable to find libjpeg.so.8
err:winediag:gnutls_initialize failed to load libgnutls, no support for encryption
Plus:

Code: Select all

fixme:d3d:wined3d_dxtn_init Wine cannot find the txc_dxtn library, DXTn software support unavailable.
if you want better gaming performance.

What's is the content of:

Code: Select all

~/.alsoftrc
~/.asoundrc
/etc/asound.conf
/etc/openal/alsoft.conf
(Some of these files may not be present on your system obviously.)
  • Is your ALSA setup limited to a single sound source?
  • E.g. have you enabled dmix for multi-source mixing?
Also I'd suggest starting a thread on the PCLinuxOS forums...
I haven't used ALSA for years now. But I clearly recall it being a horrendous mess to configure... :?
