Migration incompatibilities between WineHQ-devel 2.17 / 2.18

Post by Sergio_apf »

Hello world,

I am migrating my old desktop from a Debian Jessie + WineHQ-devel 2.17 to a new one with Debian Stretch + WineHQ-devel 2.18 and I thought some problems should be overcame, but they are back again. I have two softwares working on Debian Jessie + WineHQ-devel 2.17 and hanging in the new one Desktop (Stretch + WineHQ-devel 2.18).

The first one software is Mapsource from Garmin GPS , this software read the waypoints from a GPS through a USB port (/dev/ttyUSB0). The software installation process runs perfectly, but when I ask to read the GPS data from the GPS device attached to USB the Desktop freeze and I need to do a hard reset to reboot and have Desktop back on work. I've checked the both desktop configurations to try figure out which is the difference that's leading me to this headache. The permissions to the group dialout is granted for my user have plenty access to USB device. Also I tested this software in Virtualbox (Windows 7) installed in the same new desktop and It works to make me crazy.

The second one is a software that reads a specific data from a numeric table (asc file) and one of Its function is generate graphics for analysis. The software installation is ok, I am able to load and work with the data, but when a run the command to generate the graphics the software hangs and one window with error "memory access violation" raises. Also in this case the software install process runs perfectly.

My Wine environment is WINEARCH=win32 WINEPREFIX="$home"/.wine32 and the i386 architecture was added.

I am having difficulties to understand what is happening in this scenario and some directions will be very useful to make these softwares work as they do in my old desktop.

Thanks,

Sergio.

Off the top of my head, there is a known issue that (so far) seems to have only affected Debian Stretch: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43217. The bug report indicates there's a fix in wine-staging, so you could try that.

If that's not it, try comparing the packages you have installed on the two systems; you could be missing something on the newer system.

And if that's not it, post terminal output.

Winetricks is the only package that I don't have in the new machine. I let apart because there is a problem with IE8 installation. Seems Microsoft changes the download source,

I installed the WineHQ-staging and 50% of the problem is solved now. The second software (that generate graphics) is back on work. But Mapsource from Garmin 's stills freezing all the machine, including all the extra terminals (F1-F2-F3,,,,).

I attached some log filess output:
