3dconnexion spacemouse with sketchup on wine

Post by putyourlitterhere »

Hi,

hope somebody can help me with this issue: I run Sketchup 2017 via PlayonLinux on Ubuntu 16.04. I used the instructions on https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... &iId=34500 (see comment of user John Walter March 11, 2017). It works great!

Now I would like to use my 3dConnexion SpaceMouse Pro with Sketchup on Linux. I have not found anybody describing how to do that so far. I know there is an Open Source driver for theses devices called spacenavd http://spacenav.sourceforge.net. There is also a linux version of the driver from the manufacturer 3dconnexion https://www.3dconnexion.de/service/drivers.html. The windows version of this driver also includes a plugin for Sketchup.

I installed the windows version of the the driver in my Sketchup POL virtual device. When I open up Sketchup I can now see a 3dxWare Plugin under Extensions that is enabled. However the Spacemouse does not work.

I have not yet managed to get the linux driver installed, but i can use the spacenavd driver. In general I'm not sure what is the best approach. I have read that for using USB devices with wine the device needs a linux driver, otherwise it won't work in wine. Now, should I try to get the linux driver running on Ubuntu? But how would the Sketchup plugin then come in? It's not included in the linux version. If I use the spacenavd driver I can hardly imagine that it works with the 3dconnexion Sketchup plugin.
Can somebody point me to the right direction? How would a wine guru go for this? Is there a chance that I can use the space mouse only with the windows version of the driver installed in wine?

Any help is appreciated.
