Helicon Focus 6.7.1 Lite

I bought a one-year license to try and use Helicon focus after finding an article on here on how to get it to work. I downloaded the six DLL's I needed, the program installs and runs fine. However it crashes every time I try to add a photo set. I'm using Linux Mint Cinnamon 3.2.7 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.2) dm: mdm Distro: Linux Mint 18.1 Serena

Wine version 1.6.2 is years old...
I'd recommend re-testing with the latest winehq-devel package - see WineHQ: Ubuntu ...
Current version release of this package is 2.6.

I'd also recommend testing your application is a 32-bit Wineprefix (if it has a 32-bit version) - see WineHQ FAQ: 6.5.3 How do I create a 32 bit wineprefix on a 64 bit system?
That can improve compatibility with some applications...

but it won't work (I removed the old version first)

It's a Linux Mint bug... I had a chat with Darkplayer on irc... He suggested the following:

Which is basically what I was going to suggest as well - so it's obviously great minds thinking alike there!

He's got a bug fix commited for this... See Github: linuxmint / mintsources
No doubt that will "quickly" hit a release version, of Linux Mint, in 2018 or so...

Quite frankly - unless you desperately need the Cinnamon Desktop - I would seriously recommend against using Linux Mint...
Some of the practices they follow are highly dubious - like calling themselves a distribution - when half the Linux Mint repos just point directly at Canonical binary package mirrors...
I would recommend a real alternative like Ubuntu Mate - where real quality control and ease of use are both highly valued...

Do I have to wipe and re-install everything? or can I "upgrade" to MATE?

PS: Helicon works now, I was able to add images, now I need to learn how to use the program

But Martin Wimpress (lead Ubuntu Mate Developer) is on the record as stating that he has issues with how Linux Mint build their packages...
I can dredge up the Youtube link if you are interested to find out more...

You might want to consider switching to Ubuntu Mate - say for the 18.04 LTS release or something like that...
