When I first run Wine it asks for Mono package and in small window you can read "it is recommended to use your distribution's package instead".
I've Mono package installed and I had a look at https://wiki.winehq.org/Mono as suggested but I don't understand how to use Mono I have.
OpenMandriva Linux 2014.2 64 bit, WinE 1.8.1
using Mono installed in Linux
Re: using Mono installed in Linux
You need wine-mono, not Linux mono. Some distros package wine-mono, and if yours does, install it. If not, follow the instructions on the wiki to install wine-mono manually.
Re: using Mono installed in Linux
I checked and my distribution don't package wine-mono then I'll install it manually.
I've similar question for Gecko and I've wine-gecko 2.24 installed in linux, can I use it for Wine?

Re: using Mono installed in Linux
2.24 is too old for 1.8.1. You need wine-gecko 2.40. https://wiki.winehq.org/Gecko
Re: using Mono installed in Linux
Ok.
I could ask for an update of wine-gecko. But it's not so clear to me if we have real improvements using wine-gecko installed in Linux. If not is much more simple to install wine-gecko in Wine.
