wine hardware/machine ID generation ?

Post by tigner »

The latest version of Softmaker Office uses the hardware/machine ID number to identify the machine when
it is installed. Apparently, wine generates a new ID everytime it boots. Softmaker Office counts each new ID
as a reinstall , and as they limit the number of installs, this means that Softmaker Office quickly stops working.
Quote from Softmaker "Wine could be the cause of your problem. It seem that it creates new ID-numbers for the (virtual) hardware after every reboot. "

Is there a way to "FIX" the hardware/machine ID of Wine, to stop this from happening ?

Thank you to all who help with this.

Perhaps that behaviour would warrant a bug report? Native Windows will not change machine ID each boot after all...
