icewind dale and rosetta stone

Post by travellergemini »

Icewind dale: After the creation of your party you click done and the game freezes. Tried all options on site found bugs still exist. Only option left is to buy the linux version.
rosetta stone: Need 2 libraries to work but, I will most likely buy the latest version and see if that will work. Maybe I can learn how to add the libraries so I do not have to buy rosetta stone again.

The reason I got rid of windows is because microsoft failed once again to meet or exceed my expectations it is so loaded down with junk it slows my computer down with all the background processes and apps I will never use. Aside from my games and rosetta stone all my programs are in the linux format. I will continue to try and make it work but....I would rather have a linux version.

frustrated :(

Hi,

nobody answered to your post, so I'm trying to help out.

Please upgrade to latest wine version, if you haven't already. Run wine and your application in a terminal. Post the output here in this forum (if it isn't too long). Maybe your linux installation is missing some libraries, on 64bit linux you need to install some 32bit libraries for wine. If there are no obvious error messages, file bugs in wine's bugzilla.

Icewind Dale seemed to work in older wine versions, see https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... on&iId=208 . If it doesn't work in recent wine versions, a bug report would be absolutely justified, the wine project wants to avoid regressions.

There are a hell lot of Rosetta Stone versions, according to appdb some seem to work reasonably well, see https://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager. ... n&iId=1867 . What do you mean by libraries? If you are talking about overriding wine's dlls with windows dlls, that shouldn't be too hard, installing windows dlls using winetricks and use winecfg to override the dlls. But please try it first in a "clean" wineprefix, i.e. a new '.wine' folder without any winetricks and overrides.

1. rebuilt hard drive. 2. I have wine 1.6.2 stable, mono, and geko packs. 3. the only way to install icewind dale is through the terminal (multiple dvds). 4. the preview is window in window with audio and no animation.
5. black isle logo check. 6. TSR logo check. 7. intro movie check. 8. create party check. 9. start game screen freezes and reduces to the left side of desktop. i have to force a quit.

You really should test with latest release, wine 1.8rc3. If you file a bug, they will ask you to do so anyway.

Regarding the error message about p11-kit, I'm not sure that this is causing the problems, but it should be fixed anyway. Install the 32bit (i386) packages that contain p11-kit, see e.g. http://askubuntu.com/questions/370737/p ... -with-wine
