How to update WINE?

I have WINE installed in Ubuntu. As always, the Ubuntu PPA is never up to date with the latest WINE version. However, it finally got updated a few days ago. How can I update WINE? I installed WINE using apt-get. Last time I tried to update WINE, it installed some kernel thing (I had installed AMD drivers for Linux for my video card) and rendered my Ubuntu install unbootable.

The bugs related to the conflict between the Ubuntu Wine packages and the AMD and Nvidia driver packages have both been marked fixed, so AFAIK upgrading Wine should no longer be a problem provided you have also updated your graphics driver.
