Wine : dialog box too small

Post by sonnet »

As per title , I installed wine but the dialog box is too small: a very tiny rectangle , too small to have fonts in it as also can't display any cotnrol button.
If by chance I'm able to install an application, then it works, indeed I was able to install an application by pressing enter (without visualizing the control buttons though, just a bit of luck as I remembered the installation process).

Wether I set the virtual desktop or not, doesn't make a difference.
Whether I use kde windows style or no style doesn't change a thing.
Wine regedit window appear with normal size but just empty
Resizing those tiny dialog boxes is impossible.

I'm using KDE 4.10.2 as DE. Wine version 1.5.27
Distribution :Mageia 3

Any ideas?

Did you change the screen resolution in winecfg at some point?

Yes I did, I checked the option to emulate the desktop and insterted the desired resolution.
If that's what you mean.
But then due to this problem I uninstalled, and deleted the ./wine folder.
After I reinstalled I got the same problem (without touching the resolution at all)
Now after I rechecked, everything seems to work fine.
I don't understand..

Do you mean you set the virtual desktop size, or the screen resolution (with the slider) below it? I'm referring to the latter, and if that's what you changed, that could have caused the problem.

One explanation I can think of is that there was a Wine process from the old .wine still left running in the background after you deleted the messed up .wine, and that process was no longer running when you checked today, so the clean configuration took effect.

It's also possible that the problem was with your window manager and had nothing to do with Wine at all.

Thanks for the help.
I figured it out what the problem was.
Basically I reinstalled the OS, and got the same problem.

So I remembered that yesterday I installed Crossover along with some dependencies.
Now, I'm not expert about the dependencies , but basically the packagerof Wine for Mageia might have forgot to link some
essential dependency.

Those were the dependencies not included:
libfreetype6
libxi6
libxrandr2
libxrender
pygtk-libglade 2.0

You should report the problem to the Mageia Wine package maintainer.
