Problems with https URLs

Applications run under Wine are not able to properly load secure web sites for me. I am unable to buy games on Steam, read my email on the GMail web site, or patch Sony Online Entertainment(SOE) games such as EverQuest.

I am using Wine 1.5.18 on Slackware 14.0.
