Wine Mono package on Wine 1.4.1?

I read here that the Wine Mono package has been introduced for Wine 1.5.3. However I am running the stable version 1.4.1. How do I get Wine Mono in my version of Wine? Thanks for any answers.

Upgrade to a version of Wine that supports Wine Mono.

My question is if it can be made to work in the stable branch.

I suppose it could if you apply all the patches needed to make it work that have been committed to the development branch but not the stable. http://source.winehq.org/git/wine.git/
