Install of Office 2010 fails

Post by abachmann »

Here I'm running OpenSuse 12.2 (32 bit) with wine 1.15.16. I downloaded the Office 2010 Home and Business (32 bit) installer from Microsoft, and started it with "wine MS_Office_2010_HuB_X17-75062.exe". It extracts the files, asks me to input a serial, continue, shows the EULA, continue, then I click on 'Install now'. Now it shows the installation progress bar. At about half of its way, the installation ends and it says that there was an error during the setup process.

I attached wine's output. Please let me know if you need further information. I'm quite new to wine and I thought it should run fine (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?appId=31). What went wrong?

Code: Select all

err:winediag:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. Usually, you can find it in the winbind package of your distribution.
The need for winbind is clearly stated in the AppDB howto for Office 2010.

I'm sorry, you are right.
However, I think some users would appreciate a more obvious error message which hints on this.
