For my first use of Wine I've decided to try to play Wing Commander Prophecy. I can't find any basic howto on using the joystick. I've been through the Wine configuration app, but it doesn't acknowledged the existence of joysticks. Sure enough, when I try to calibrate the joystick, I get an error about "c:\windows\control.exe". I see there's a "control.exe" in c:\windows\system32\" so, from the BASH shell I make a sym link to it in "\windows". I selected "Calibrate Joystick" from the Prophesy menu again, and nothing happens.
I'm running openSUSE 11.4 64-bit with the distro version of Wine (1.4). My joystick is a WingMan Force 3D USB. It is recognized by the system:
[10178.512193] input: Logitech Inc. WingMan Force 3D as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:16.0/usb7/7-3/7-3:1.0/input/input9

please try latest wine release, 1.5.13. It should have much improved joystick support, even some kind of joystick configuration applet. Please run from command line and post output.
How well is running Prophecy for you under wine, apart from the joystick issue? Under Windows XP it worked best for me with the OpenGL patch (OpenGL-WCP_setup.exe).
If it's not too late: actually, I seems that the joystick calibration for WCP is unnecessary as just calibrating it on the host system should be good enough.
It seemed to go ok for me. I just ran a simulator mission and was able to completely it, although, I don't know if I was able to put the stick to extremes, as the ship seemed to manoeuvre a bit sluggishly. That might just be the nature of the game.
