Guild Wars 2 launcher blank (1.5.10)

Hi all, I'm trying to run GW2 on a laptop with Sandy Bridge and HD3000, no discrete GPU (HP dm1 4050 us, Ubuntu 12.04 x64). It installs fine, but when I start it the launcher window is blank:

Have tried on both Unity and Unity 2d, same thing on both.

Closest issue found on the forums was this. Not exactly the problem, but related maybe?

Any suggestions or tips for troubleshooting this?

Eh, can't edit my post anymore, but just noticed the sticky on Ubuntu 12.04, guess I should try another distro or try compiling wine in a chroot (running from the ubuntu repo currently). Before I go through all that, anyone know if there's an easy workaround to this blank launcher issue?

did you already try to use the "-useoldlauncher" option?

Yes, -useoldlauncher just crashes the launcher unfortunately.

However, I just discovered this reddit thread, and tried -dx9single, and that completely fixed the problem.

/fingers crossed it gets me into the game too next stress test or launch.
