Using Thin application to wrap install in single application

Post by greavette »

Hello,

I see that Thinstall works with Wine. Has anyone tried other (free) portable application creators like Cameyo?

I've used various application virtualization programs for years now. Originally I started with Altiris SVS before it was bought by Symantec and recently I've begun using Cameyo's app virt product.

It occurred to me recently that couldn't you take a packaged windows application and run it through wine on Linux? I'm not talking about all apps running like this...Linux has many great alternatives to Windows apps. But there are a few we use in our office that are windows only apps. I would love to remove some of our windows workstations with Linux boxes if possible.

Has anyone tried doing this and if so, what app virtualization app(s) have you used to make it work on Linux.

Thank you.
