Did you patch it with latest wine 1.4.rc-3 ?dimesio wrote:I've updated both bug 14137 and the AppDB entry with this information, but figured I'd post it here, too.
I downloaded the game, and yes, it does need the patch in http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18799 to start. It also needs vcrun2005 and vcrun2008 installed with winetricks before running Entropia's installer, but that seems to be it.
Note to Davvvve: in the future, when posting information about patches, please identify the bug to which they are attached. It was very difficult to find, and there was a very important piece of information in that bug report: it was closed as WONTFIX.
Entropia Universe on Arch Linux (x86_64)

Yes; the patch still applies cleanly.Davvvve wrote: Did you patch it with latest wine 1.4.rc-3 ?
I also found from subsequent tests that installing vcrun2005 & 2008 with winetricks is not necessary after all; it was a coincidence that the installer worked after I tried that. I did more testing, and found the crash after the installer updates vcrun2005 seems to be random, and just trying again from the start until it works is enough. One other thing I found: use wine start /Unix and the full path to run the installer to get around bug 14140.
That's right. Instructions for patching and compiling are here: http://wiki.winehq.org/FAQ#head-719d19c ... c2a301ce52Zacariaz wrote:So what you're saying is that I need not revert to some earlier version of wine? If so, that's rather nice. Now I just need to figure out how to patch it.
Since this patch may break a lot of other things, don't install the Wine you build with it--just run it from the build directory. That way you can still use your distro's Wine packages for everything else.
I found a nice youtube video with instructions on patching in arch linux. I'm currently compiling and hopefully it will be successful.
However, since I understand close to nothing about the process, is there anyway to verify that everything has gone as planed, or do I have to simply test it out installing and running entropia universe?

Okay, so the patch seems to be working, as I do not experience a crash as such, however the game still ends up freezing before it's done loading, after which I have to do a hard reboot.
I most certainly have something to do with some d3d dlls, but I really haven't got a clue. Started out applying _36, as I recalled that to be the recommendation and when that didn't work, I applied the whole package, only to have it freeze earlier in the loading process.
As you've gotten it to work, I assume I'm doing something wrong, so if you don't mind making one last attempt of enlightening me as to what I'm doing wrong, I'll be most grateful.
