using sonic fire pro

Post by walk5 »

I am new to Wine and Linux. Using kubuntu 19.10 currently. I have Wine installed. I am using Zbrush 2020. It is running good. I loaded Sonic Fire Pro 6 using Wine but it will not open. I tried to search for it on the database but I had no luck. I am hoping someone is making it work. Is there a way to run Sonic Fire Pro?

Please help. I need this to run and I hate Windows.

Thanks in advance.

The 21-days demo seems to be running fine with Wine 5.4
Which version of Wine do you use?
Could you post a terminal output?

We are using the stable version 5.0. What do you mean by terminal output? Sorry. Still a little new to Linux and learning as I go.

EDIT: With Wine stable I had to install vcrun2017 with winetricks

Often there are clues what went wrong in the terminal output.
It is impossible to help you without a terminal output.

Could you install the program in a clean wineprefix?
And install the winbind package.

If I add a new wineprefix will it damage my connection with my graphics program? I had to set a wine prefix for that. Can you run more then one prefix at a time?

Yes, you can run multiple wineprefixes at the same time.

I have been reading over and over again the instructions for a second prefix. I am still new to this and I am not sure I completely understand how to do this.

@walk5

You'd also want to read over: WineHQ FAQ: 6.5 Wineprefixes (if you haven't already).

It's also worth reading over how BASH environment variables work...
Since this is rather crucial to your understanding of how to use WINEPREFIX's ...

A simple example of how environment variables persist in single terminal session (note: this would only apply to one tab/session of konsole, gnome-terminal, etc.):

Code: Select all

$ WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.wine32        # environment variable only persists for a single interactive command/shell script, when not 'export'ed ...
$ env | grep WINEPREFIX # ... so subsequent interactive commands cannot 'see' the environment variable
$
$ export WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.wine32 # environment variable persists for current shell session/subsessions/shell script, when 'export'ed
$ env | grep WINEPREFIX
WINEPREFIX=/home/user/.wine32
$
$ unset -v WINEPREFIX
$ env | grep WINEPREFIX
$

@walk5

I presume you mean the: winbind ; package...
You can install this native package with apt:

Code: Select all

apt install winbind

I misspelled it. That is why it did not work. That sounds about right for me. Very frustrating. Thank you for helping my very beginner mistake. Not being a jerk. I am thankful.
